You’ll find Hereford Park 15 minutes from Te Puke in the fertile Bay of Plenty. It’s the latest opportunity for co-investors to partner with the industry leaders, Southern Cross Horticulture, and co-own a world-class kiwifruit orchard. SCH has been investing its own money in kiwifruit for decades, and now others can put their money alongside ours and own a proportional share in a high-quality orchard.
When you go into business, you need to have trust in your partners. Trust in their values and integrity, trust in their skills, and trust in their experience. At Southern Cross Horticulture, we offer co-investors the chance to put their money alongside ours and become part-owners of a kiwifruit orchard with us. So we reckon it’s only fair that we should tell you a little bit about ourselves so you can judge whether we align.
Zespri is a local business made good. The kiwifruit co-operative is one of those rare New Zealand businesses that is succeeding on a truly international stage. Last year, Zespri supplied 180 million trays of kiwifruit globally. SCH grows Zespri fruit and investors in our orchards become part of the Zespri success story too.
Andrew Dunstan is the CEO of Southern Cross Horticulture, who now offer investors an opportunity to partner with them in new orchard developments. He’s also a typical Kiwi who doesn’t like the spotlight. But recognising that one of the biggest challenges for investors is to know who they can trust, he let us twist his arm to tell you a little about the man at the helm of SCH.
David Hay is a Founding Partner at Antipodes Capital, an investment bank that’s done a lot of work in the agri-foods sector. That reflects David’s own rural background, and he’s been involved with SCH since 2017. Antipodes has developed so much confidence in SCH’s approach that the partners don’t just help raise capital for investment orchards, they’ve invested their own personal funds too.
It seems like everyone's an innovator these days. Or so they say. “Innovation” has become a buzzword and a cliché in the wrong hands. So when someone claims to be innovative, it's a good idea to have a look at their track record and see how it stacks up. We don’t like buzzwords, but we’re happy to stand up to a bit of scrutiny.
There’s a strong and growing worldwide demand for fresh, healthy produce that’s high in vitamin C—exactly the profile of kiwifruit, and particularly the SunGold variety that SCH specialises in. This is one of the reasons that SCH and our investment banking partner, Antipodes Capital, think the returns on kiwifruit investment are a good bet, good enough to put our own skin in the game alongside co-investors.
